Zach Hunter

Zach Hunter is the Executive Officer at Slate Building Company, bringing a deep background in custom residential construction and business operations. Before founding Slate, Zach worked for a custom home builder, where he played a critical role in estimating, purchasing, and project management. Recognizing his strengths, the company tasked him with launching a new production building arm. Zach led the initiative from the ground up—designing home plans, organizing subcontractors, overseeing budgets, managing field operations, and supporting sales efforts. Under his leadership the builder successfully developed two subdivisions in Draper, Utah, generating over $12 million in revenue in just 18 months. Despite these achievements, unmet commitments led Zach to pursue his vision for a more transparent, client-focused construction company. That vision became Slate. Today, Zach leverages his diverse experience and attention to detail to drive operational excellence and deliver exceptional results for Slate’s clients.
James Sullivan
CFO
James Sullivan serves as the Financial Controller for Slate Building Company, where he oversees all financial operations, including billing, invoicing, purchase orders, change orders, RFIs, accounts receivable, and accounts payable. A licensed CPA, James brings a broad and versatile financial background to Slate, with prior experience spanning SaaS, biotechnology, information systems, consulting, software, and construction. His diverse industry knowledge allows him to implement efficient financial systems and processes that support growth and accountability. James earned his master’s degree in accounting from Brigham Young University in 2014 and has since built a career focused on financial integrity and operational excellence. At Slate, he plays a critical role in aligning the company’s financial practices with its long-term strategic goals. James’ attention to detail, analytical expertise, and ability to bridge the gap between finance and field operations make him an indispensable part of the leadership team.
Chris Erni
CCO
Chris Erni is a key leader at Slate Building Company, where he oversees field operations and manages active construction projects. Chris began his career in residential construction in 2018, working for a custom home builder. There, he quickly took charge of in-field operations—scheduling trades, verifying scopes of work, managing warranty claims, and ensuring projects stayed on track. During his tenure, Chris successfully managed over $20 million in new construction. In 2022, he joined Slate to lead framing crews and direct construction activity on the ground. Under his leadership, Slate made rapid strides, framing over 60 homes in its first year for clients. With an eye for efficiency, quality, and collaboration, Chris plays a vital role in delivering Slate’s commitment to excellence in every phase of the build process.
